The Trump Ad Situation is Crazy

This topic peaked my interest after I was watching Dancing With the Stars with my girlfriend and a particular commercial came across my screen I had heard some talk about. It was none other than the Donald Trump commercial that has been causing a crux online with it being paid for by government money. That of course means our tax money was used by our billionaire president to make a commercial to try to make himself look cool. I found out from CNN that this was just one of 12 ads made in what is being called an "ad blitz" all being paid for by taxpayer dollars.

Regardless of your political views this should turn your head and make you wonder why exactly Trump needed these ads in the first place. At least 5.6 million dollars have already been spent making these ads with a total of 20 million dollars allocated to the creation of future ads for the president. These ads use audio and newspaper text painting the president in a positive light with one going as far as to be titled "Trump Made God". As part of its controversial taxpayer-funded ad campaign, the White House created a spot titled "Resilience" that shows President Donald Trump's progression from a younger man in the New York real estate market to the US president.

I just think it's inconceivable how he and his administration ever thought these ads would be a good idea and even give an iota of a boost to his reputation. This falls completely under the old rules of marketing where it's disrupting you on channels and streaming services that people are on to escape politics and is trying to gain mass appeal for Trump. This has obviously caused the opposite effect as even fellow republicans are criticizing the decision of this campaign in general, let alone the use of taxpayer money.

Trump has made many questionable marketing decisions, most notable in my mind was his "Trump Phone" he made which most people who paid for it haven't even received it yet after it was promised to be out by August of last year.

This current ad campaign just does everything imaginable wrong in my opinion. First of all bombarding people with these ads is the one major thing that has been found to specifically not work in the new rules of marketing. Now I suppose you could argue that this would work for his scenario because everybody already knows all about him and who he his so he isn't trying to sell you on who he is but rather make you thing higher of him. Secondly the entire way he went around these ads just wrong. If he wanted to up his reputation he should not have painted himself as this perfect president who is the most feared leader among nations and the most badass individual to ever grace the earth. The only people this has that effect on is the people who already believe those things about him. Rather he should have targeted the people who do not believe these things and don't agree with most things he's done. Nothing he could do would ever sway the extremists who believe he is the worst human to exist, but you could have some sort of effect on people who may not pay close attention to politics and don't have a strong opinion on him. You could easily do this by simply highlighting some positive things he's done during his presidency or as a person. Or he could have owned up to some of his mistakes and talk about how he is working to correct them. This would have targeted a more niche demographic that he actually had a chance at getting positive rep from. And lastly, he should've never even thought about using taxpayer money for this. You're a billionaire for goodness sake.

As part of its controversial taxpayer-funded ad campaign, President Donald Trump's White House created a spot titled "God Made Trump," which portrays him as a messianic figure.
